Steps
- Go to the Rivet City Science Lab.
- Join the scientists at Project Purity.
- Turn on the Flood Control Pump Power.
- Get the fuses from Dad.
- Replace the damaged fuses.
- Boot up the mainframe.
- Speak with Dad over the intercom.
- Drain the intake pipes.
How do you open the mainframe door in Fallout 3?
Boot up the mainframe / Speak with Dad over intercom – The door to the mainframe is located on the ‘upper level’ of the basement, before the stairs down to the bunk bedroom. After the fuses are installed, a large green light beside the door will turn on.

Can you join the Enclave in Fallout 3?
You cannot join the Enclave or side with them, it would have been more interesting if you could but you are forced to side with the BoS. Yeah, there is even a moment where Eden pretends you’d have a place in the Enclave but it’s just a trick. Joining the brotherhood is the only ending to the game and cannot be changed.

It does absolutely nothing for the game and in the long run you end up missing out on a lot of free water. If you infect the water it would affect the world in such a way that the entire map would need to be altered to take it into account. In the case of using the FEV virus, it will kill all remaining life.
